Leabelle Pennington Gum’s sunrise was November 9, 1921, and her sunset was Sunday, April 5, 2020. She was 98 years old and formerly of Cass.
She was a daughter of the late Edward Pennington and Flossie May Varner.
Leabelle was of the Methodist faith. She was an avid homemaker and worked at the Cass Company Store for many years.
She was a fan of flowers, birds, WVU sports, and all things sparkly. She spent the last 10+ years at Pocahontas Center and was dubbed by the other residents and care providers as “Hollywood.”
Leabelle was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 16 siblings; and great-grandson, D. W. Cassell.
She is survived by three sons, Norman Winans, and wife, Peggy, of Spotsylvania, Virginia, Harry Gum, Jr., and wife, Bonnie, and Rick Gum, and wife, Kathy, all of Cass; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held Thursday, April 9, 2 p.m. in Arbovale Cemetery.
