Spring Creek in Greenbrier County had a washout Friday night, even worse than the flood August 26. No lives were lost this time, but the house where Mrs. Ella Boggs and her daughter, Maudie Boggs, drowned before, and other houses and bridges were completely washed away. The flash flooding was confined to the one drainage area, about 25 miles long. Roads are still closed. One report said a wall of water 45 feet high rolled down a narrow hollow, spreading out below.

Jack Gay is the recipient of an assistantship at the University of Kentucky and is working on his Doctorate in Agricultural Economics. Jack is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Gay, of Buckeye. He and his family have been in Africa for the past five years.
Boys and Girls in Service
Sergeant Marvin Perry is on his way home after a year in Viet Nam and is expected to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Perry, about September 15.
Col. Robert K. Moore, of Huntersville, retired from the Army after more than 27 years of service. In ceremonies at the Pentagon, Col. Moore was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for his outstanding service as Executive Officer for the assistant Secretary of the Army, Research and Development during the past three years…
Pvt. Larry R. Dean has completed his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and is presently stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for further training.

Mr. and Mrs. Chester Vanscoy, of Marlinton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Barbara Ann, to Donald James Circosta, of Marlinton and Neola, son of Mrs. Lynn McCarty and the late James Circosta.

DEATHS
Mrs. Maybelle Turner Nelson and daughter, June, were killed Tuesday, September 9, 1969, at Waverly, Ohio, They were formerly from Boyer.
Earl Kee, 77, of Marlinton, a son of the late George and Rachel Moore Kee. Burial in the Kee Cemetery.
Carter E. Ballard, 73, of Marmet. Mr. Ballard had been coming to Pocahontas for over thirty years hunting and visiting the Walter Graham family at Buckeye.
Merrick Jackson Alderman, 71, of Neola; born in Pocahontas County, a son of the late Esco and Ada Virginia Dean Alderman. Burial in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg.
Mrs. Georgia Mae Gibson Bero, of East Hartford, Connecticut, and Hollywood, Florida. Born and reared in Pocahontas County, a daughter of the late Frank and Rosa Belle Gibson.
