Food Preservation Workshops
Would you like to learn how to properly can, dry or freeze your summer produce? The WVU Extension Service will hold a series of Food Preservation Workshops in Marlinton during July. These workshops will be held on Tuesdays, July 15, 22 and 29 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and will cover the following topics:
· July 15: Drying Foods
· July 22: Canning Foods (Hot water bath and pressure canning)
· July 29: Freezing Foods
These free workshops are open to the public and you can register for as many of the workshops as you choose. Space for each of the workshops is limited, so call the WVU Extension Office at 304-799-4852 today to register for any or all of the workshops.
Project Books Due
Just a reminder that all 4-H Project Books and Activity Records are due in the Extension Office on or before June 30. The books will be graded by people in the county who have expertise in each project field, and the books will be taken to them immediately after the deadline. Therefore, late books will not be graded.
4-H/FFA Ham and Bacon Project
If you are planning to participate in the 2015 Ham Bacon Show and Sale contact the WVU Extension Office at 304-799-4852 by June 30.
The following rules apply to this project.
1) Only ONE Ham and ONE Bacon will be sold per participant.
2) Deadline for ownership of a pig is August 1.
3) Hogs will be butch-ered in October.
4) Hams must weigh less than 38 pounds (Green Weight).

Four-H and FFA Show participants cannot enter livestock online. Entry forms must be printed and all 4-H forms must still be signed by Greg or Shirley before being submitted.
All entry forms must arrive in the State Fair Office by noon on Tuesday, July 8.
