John Lane Casto, of Marlinton, left his earthly home for a better home with our Lord on Friday, October 25, 2013.
Born June 6, 1925, at Weston, he was a son of the late Max and Eva Jane Casto.
John was an honorable man to his country, especially West Virginia and moreover to his family and friends.
He loved the outdoors, wildlife, hunting and fishing. Moreover, he loved people. He served in World War II in the 102nd Infantry, United States Army Division in Europe.
John served in the Department of Natural Resources and retired as Captain after 41 years. His first position started in Pocahontas County in 1946 and then included every county in West Virginia. He retired in November 1987. He was also a Deputy with the United States Fish and Wildlife Services.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Teresa and Mark.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anna Miller Casto, of Pocahontas County; a son, John Arthur Casto, and wife, Sara; a daughter, Marcia Payne, and husband, Ronald Stacey Payne; grandchildren, Tracy Simpson, Stephanie Dailey, Steven Casto, Emily Casto, Hanna Payne and Moriah Payne; four great-grandsons; and many extended family and friends he loved, as well.
Funeral service was October 28 at the New Hope Church of the Brethren with Pastor David Rittenhouse officiating. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery in Marlinton.
