2017 comes to an end, and, with a clean slate, we enter into the possibilities of 2018.
New Year’s celebrations – long standing traditions – with parties, loud horns, hugs and kisses.
Good times, but for some, not a sober time.
I remember watching the ball drop at midnight one year on Main Street in Marlinton. I was with my friend, Juanita. I’m not sure why we went to see it – it was cold!
But, the New Year gives us a chance to begin anew; a chance to turn over a new leaf in life.
Remember all the resolutions we’ve made over the years?
Mine was usually to lose weight, but it never came to pass.
This year, I hope to make a difference in my life by life changes that will make me a better person, and help me to make a difference in the lives of others.
Won’t you join me?
Let’s leave behind any differences or grudges. Just let them go, and feel lighter and freer.
Be kinder to others.
We do not know what burden a rude or grouchy person might be carrying.
Show appreciation for kindnesses shown to you – a thank you in person or a note – and may I say, “thank you” to each person who has remembered me with kind deeds.
Let’s give words of encouragement to those who need to be uplifted.
A sincere compliment – wife to husband – husband to wife – that were once freely given – just go for it, again!
Be non-judgmental.
Stop the gossip. It does a favor for no one.
Listen more than you speak.
And let us pray for one another.
If I become a better person in 2018, my weight might not change, but my heart will be lighter.
May yours be, as well.
Happy New Year!
