Marietta P. Stemple, age 87, of Marlinton, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Born February 4, 1930, in Morgantown, she was a daughter of the late Asa and Edna Walls.
Marietta was a graduate of Morgantown High School. She moved to Marlinton in 1949 as the young bride of Edward Stemple.
While raising her family, Marietta was very involved in the community. She was an active member of the Marlinton United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, past Worthy Grand Matron of the Eastern Star, volunteer for Cub Scouts and 4-H, “Grandma Story Time” for the elementary school, member of the Red Hat Society, tour guide for Pearl S. Buck Birthplace and an accomplished seamstress. She and Ed were founding members of the Pocahontas County Promenaders square dance club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, in 2013; an infant daughter, Nancy Victoria; a sister; and two brothers.
She is survived by her children, Carole Ann Zeglin, and husband, Daniel, Edward L. Stemple, Dondi Stemple, Randy Stemple, and wife, Paula, and Jeanne Hanna, and husband, Thomas; and grandchildren, Cristie Zeglin, Timothy Zeglin, and wife, Sarah, Elizabeth Evans, and husband, John, Justin Stemple, Eric Stemple, and wife, Laura, Jonathon Compton, Ann Marie Stemple, Chelsea Kirby, and husband, Matt, Drew Compton, Morgan Hanna and Michael Hanna, and their families.
Funeral service was held September 5 at the Marlinton United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
