The Pocahontas County High School Boys Soccer team traveled to Beckley August 19 to take on Herbert Hoover in the opening game of the season.
It was a hard fought game, with the Warriors coming up just a bit short. The final score was 3-4, Herbert Hoover.
Junior Hunter Shafer started off the Warriors with a goal off a direct kick. Seniors Trey Rabel and Jarret Taylor also had goals with both assists coming from Shafer. Sophomore goalie Dakota Workman had 10 saves on goal for the day.
The Warriors’ first home game was August 22 against the Petersburg Vikings.
The Warriors dominated the field with a 6 – 0 victory.
Hunter Shafer again led the Warriors with three goals. Assists for these goals came from freshman Tony Duncan, Junior Elijah Robertson and senior Matt Pritt. Senior Trey Rabel had two goals, with assists from Shafer and freshman Bryson Cassell. Senior Joe Whalen scored a goal with assist coming from Pritt. Starting goalie junior Kyle Cohenour had 14 saves and back-up goalie sophomore Dakota Workman had seven saves, which led to the shut-out.
On August 24, the Warriors traveled to Weston to take on the AA Lewis County Minutemen. The Minutemen had a strong, fast front line, which led to 30 shots on goal.
The Minutemen won the match 8 to 2, with Elijah Robertson and Trey Rabel scoring for PCHS.
Goal keeper Kyle Cohenour had a whopping 22 saves for the Warriors.
