Forty-five students from Pocahontas County participated in National Archery in the State Tournament at the Charleston Civic Center March 25.
The top six schools in each division – elementary, middle and high school – competed for state titles.
The Marlinton Middle School team had a great day Saturday, winning the Middle School Championship title for the second year in a row.
Maria Workman was the day’s top Warrior Archer shooting a score of 291.
Workman won the award for top Female Middle School Archer as well as the overall Top Female Archer of the Tournament.
Makenna McKenney took sixth place female with a score of 278.
Macaden Taylor was eighth in the state with a score of 276.
T. D. Sparks shot a 288, giving him second place in the Middle School Male Division.
The Marlinton Elementary team made great strides in improvements throughout the season shooting their best team score of the year at Saturday’s tournament. The team finished third with several shooters taking home individual awards.
Riley Pollack placed third in the Elementary Female Division; Jersey Simmons placed fourth and Hannah Burks, sixth.
Jachobi Hannah-Teter took home second in the Elementary Male Division.
