The groundhog saw his shadow early last Thursday and by nightfall snow was flying, only to warm up again. A little snow again Saturday night. Tuesday six inches of snow gave the children a school holiday.
Graduates
Henry Arnout Yeager, Jr. “Butch” was graduated in January from Concord College with a Bachelor of Science degree. He has accepted a position as a science teacher in a junior high school in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Newcomer
L. T. “Tommy” Meadows is the new pharmacist at Marlinton Drug, Inc. He comes here from Crab Orchard, where he was connected with Thompson Drug.
Mr. Meadows, a native of Crab Orchard, attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, as did his wife, the former Emma McComas, also of Crab Orchard. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, in 1962.
The Meadows have three daughters, Kathleen 5, Terri, 2, and Denise, 1. They are living temporarily in the Totten’s house at Mill Point.

This program was instituted by General Mills during the 1954 – 55 school year with three objectives: 1. To enhance the dignity and prestige of the American home. 2. To stimulate interest in homemaking, and 3. To emphasize the outstanding contributions to the home being made by high school teachers.

Nurses Ask For Raise
The seven registered nurses of the Pocahontas Memorial Hospital appeared before the Board of Trustees Monday night and requested a $100 a month raise and asked for an answer within a week. There were only three board members present so another meeting will be held next week.
This is a matter concerning the public, since the hospital is publicly owned and this may affect either prices of care or even closing the hospital…
A nurse has one day off each week, with three days in addition off per month, working 23 days. They get paid for ten sick days and three weeks vacation. Their base pay is $354 month or $314 after deduction for hospitalization, retirement, Social Security, etc…
