Squirrels were scarce Saturday, as is the food for them. The day was windy. Several turkeys were killed. Brill’s Exxon Servicenter checked five, ranging from 4 to 9 pounds.
Camera Drive
A drive is being made to buy a movie camera for the Athletic Department of Marlinton High School. It is felt more boys might be able to get athletic scholarships if they had action pictures of the games. If you are interested and have not been contacted, send or give your donation to J&P Furniture Store, or Mary Peacock, Treasurer, Merrill Peacock, Dot Clutter, Ann Meeks or John Hayslett.
Porch Light Drive
The Marlinton Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Porch Light Drive November 1 – 8, inclusive.
Your generous contributions to this drive will enable the Department to continue the quick and efficient fire protection it gives you, and will also enable it to promote a better program of fire prevention and safety.
On the nights scheduled, solicitors from the Fire Department will call at your home to receive your contribution if your porch light is burning.

in Service
A1c and Mrs. Harry Tyree and her mother, Mrs. Alvirgia Simmons (he has been stationed in England for the past 28 months) have returned to the states and will be stationed at Langley ARB, Virginia. They are visiting his mother, Mrs. Kate Cochran, at Buckeye.
S. Sgt. and Mrs. George Spear and sons, Billy and Joey, will arrive this week to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Tacy, at Cass. They are now visiting his mother in Cooper, Alabama, after returning from two years in Okinawa. Before that, he was in Alaska. They will now be stationed in Detroit.
Sp-4 Richard Doyle, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina spent last weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wes Doyle. He was accompanied home by friend, Mark Williams. They attended the Forest Festival on Saturday.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Karnes, of Princeton, a daughter, named Kimberly Gay. The mother is the former Eleanor Gay McKeever.
DEATHS
Staff Sergeant Carl Owen Grimes, 31, died as a result of an explosion of an anti-freeze tank at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. Born at Frost, a son of Mrs. Verna Fertig Grimes and the late Hubert A. Grimes. Burial in the family cemetery at Poage Lane.
Clyde Clifford Galford, 59; born at Clover Lick, a son of the late Samuel and Minnie K. Galford. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.
Mrs. Lora E. Vandevander, 65, of Arbovale; lifelong resident of Pocahontas County. Burial in the Arbovale Cemetery.
Eary Bennett, 62, of Marlinton, a son of Layman Bennett, of Warsaw, Ohio, and the late Mary Ammons Bennett. burial in the Cochran Cemetery.
James W. Crigger, 79, of Huntersville; burial in the Beaver Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Lula Pearl Hodge, 61, of Artie, died at the home of her daughter, Hannah Workman, of Marlinton. burial in the Hodge Cemetery.
Harmon Warwick Buzzard, 61, a farmer and cattleman of Hot Springs Virginia, was found dead in his truck around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, near Green Bank. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Burial in the Mountain Grove Cemetery.
