Boys and Girls in Service
A1-C Charles R. VanReenen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert VanReenen, of Beard, is now in Viet Nam.
Samuel Landis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Landis, of Hillsboro, arrived home August 24 coming from Germany by jet. He received an honorable discharge after three years in the Army, where he was an electronics instructor in missiles.
Carol R. Puffenbarger, son of Mrs. Veva Puffenbarger, of Hillsboro, also received his honorable discharge from the Army, and arrived home August 24. He and Samuel Landis enlisted together, after high school; both served in Germany, and came home at the same time. Carol repaired missiles and has accepted a job in Charleston with a telephone company.
Robert H. Miller, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Miller, of Marlinton, was promoted to Army specialist fourth class August 16 near Heidelberg, Germany, where he is serving with the 503rd Transportation Company, Headquarters – Special Troops.
Army Private Vincen W. White, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin L. White, of Abovale, completed 10 weeks of advanced infantry training at Fort Clayton, Canal Zone, August 19. He was trained in map and compass reading, land mine warfare, and firing the M-14 and M-60 machine gun. He also learned the techniques of jungle warfare, including survival, escape and evasion, and counter insurgency operations.

Marlinton High School started its regular classes on August 29. This year we welcome three new teachers to our ranks: Dale Bennett, Math and Science; Mrs. Kerth Friel, Commerce; and Mrs. James Kerr, English.
Class elections were held September 7. New officers for this year are:

ENGAGEMENTS
Mrs. Lucy Jackson, of Marlinton, announces the engagement of her daughter, Dolores Nadine, to Robert Gene Turner, son of Mrs. Ollie Turner, of Shenandoah, Virginia. A November wedding is planned.

A December wedding is planned by Miss Brenda Sharon Kellison, whose engagement to Ronald Lee Poage, of Salem, Ohio, has been announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Kellison, of Buckeye.

Bennett – Underwood
Miss Marietta Irene Underwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Watson L. Underwood, of Huntersville, became the bride of Monty Bennett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene M. Bennett, of Alderson.
The double ring ceremony was performed Saturday afternoon, September 8, 1966, in the Central Methodist Church at Arlington, Virginia, by the Reverend C. Fred Williams.
Friel – Moore
The Methodist church at Campbelltown was the setting Saturday, September 3, 1966, for the wedding of Miss Linda Elaine Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore, and Herbert Friel, son of Mrs. Morris Friel and the late Mr. Friel.
Rev. Sherman Markley performed the double ring ceremony in the presence of the families and a few close friends.

Mrs. Stella Roberta Kerr Jones, 58, of Dunmore, a daughter of the late Renick and Anna Elizabeth Lowe Kerr, and a lifelong resident of Pocahontas County. Burial in the Dunmore Cemetery.
Mrs. Eva Rexrode Hively, 80, of Dunmore, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Rexrode. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
