Severe thunderstorms throughout the night and into early Thursday morning have wreaked havoc in many areas of Pocahontas County.
Emergency Management Director Michael O’Brien reported that, as of noon, most roads were open.
Heavy showers in the afternoon may cause flooding and pooling on roadways.
He asks that people use caution when driving; and to limit travel.
Weather and road conditions could be dangerous for spectators, and could interfere with the highway department’s efforts to clean up debris, as well as the power company’s efforts to restore power.
Mon Power reported that 2,300 customers were without power, 1,600 of which are in the Marlinton vicinity.
O’Brien said Hillsboro to Green Bank were hardest hit by the storm, while Droop Mountain and Durbin fared okay.
Damage has been reported in the Kellison Addition in Campbelltown, Woodrow, and Slaty Fork.
Heavy rain is expected throughout the day.
