Director of West Virginia State Archives Joe Geiger, Jr. will visit Durbin, Thursday, June 30, when he will present his book, Holding the Line: The Battle of Allegheny Mountain and Confederate Defense of the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike, 1861-62 at the Durbin Community Library Community Room, at 6 p.m.
Geiger will discuss his research and conclusions about the Civil War battle lines drawn across the Staunton Parkersburg Turnpike that brought armies to this sparsely settled area. An introductory summary of the book is on the West Virginia Book Company website, http://www.wvbookco.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=holdingtheline and there will be copies of the book available that evening.
Sandwiches will be provided by Upper Pocahontas Community Co-operative for those coming from work.
The Durbin Community Library is next door to the Durbin Post Office and has parking available.
This is an opportunity not to be missed.
Mr. Geiger’s visit and presentation was originally scheduled for February 4, but was canceled due to snow.
