OUR BOYS AND GIRLS IN SERVICE
Oliver D. Baker, now serving overseas, sent the following letter to his parents:
Dear Mom and Dad:
Just a few lines to let you know I landed here in Germany on the 11th, fine and dandy. We landed in Bremerhaven Harbor at 1 a.m. in the south of Germany. I am right in the southern end of Germany. It is eight miles to Austria and 50 miles to Switzerland. We are right in the foothills of the Alps Mountains.
Boy, we are living like kings here. We are living in the buildings that Hitler had his private army in or his bodyguards rather. It is really nice, too. It is nicer than the big Greenbrier Hotel at White Sulphur Springs. It has marble stairs all the way up inside, and marble floors, and boy, they are pretty. They have German people to clean them even. I am sure glad we do not have to scrub this place.
We don’t even have to pull K. P. A millionaire back there does not have a home as nice as it is here. This is really nice country and pretty as a picture.
Oh, Pop used to tell us about a fellow that worked an ox and a horse together. I have seen them worked together here; an ox and a horse and a wagon just going to town. They have a lot of oxen here. It looks like a picture of horse and buggy days. This is the prettiest country I ever saw in my life.
Well, I have to take a shower and shine my shoes, but I will write again real soon.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Friel, of Marlinton, a son.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Oren Morgan, of Marlinton, a son, Henry Austin.
Correction from last week, the name of the new baby girl born to Mr. and Mrs. John Chappell, of Hillsboro, is Rebecca Jane instead of Rebecca Ann.
DEATHS
Mrs. Allie Slavin McClintic, aged 89 years, widow of the late Lockhart Matthew McClintic; funeral service from the Marlinton Presbyterian Church and her body was laid to rest in the family plot in Mt. View Cemetery. The deceased was born in Arbovale, a daughter of the late John Randolph and Margaret Wooddell Slavin.

James B. Grimes, 90, funeral service and interment in the McNeel Cemetery in the Levels. The deceased was a son of the late Allan D. and Sarah Silva Grimes. He is survived by his children, Granville Wilfong, Mrs. Mary Hogsett, Mrs. Faye Totten and Dennis and Elmer.
Our county never had a better or more upright citizen than this thoroughly Christian man.

Mrs. Mary Whitt Pifer, 37, of Marlinton, a daughter of Mrs. Florna and the late Chester Whitt. She was united in marriage to James Norval Pifer. To this union a son was born, James Norval II. Service was conducted from the Marlinton Metho-dist Church with interment in the family plot in Mt. View Cemetery.

R. E. Roberts, aged 45 years, was struck and killed by a truck on Stamping Creek Saturday evening, September 29, 1951. Burial Monday afternoon in the Sharp Family Cemetery, the service was held from the Blue Lick Schoolhouse. The deceased was a son of the late William and Mary Hankins Roberts. He is survived by his wife and seven children.

Fenton Banks, 68, of Mill Point. He is survived by his wife, Ella Crawford; a daughter; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Bolden, of Cass, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ella Hefner Puffenbarger, 73, wife of Robert Puffenbarger. Funeral service held from Marvin Chapel with burial in Ruckman Cemetery. The deceased was a daughter of the late Alex and Naomi Galford Hefner.
