Pound Cake
From my mom, Tessa Leo
1 dozen eggs
1 pound butter (2 cups)
1 pound sugar (2 cups)
1 pound flour (2 cups) Hudson Cream
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
Cream butter, adding sugar gradually.
Beat until light and fluffy.
Separate the egg whites and yolks.
Add well-beaten egg yolks.
Add baking powder and flavoring.
Mix flour in gradually.
Then fold in well-beaten egg whites.
Bake in a 9 to 10-inch tube pan at 325º . Check for doneness after 1 1/2 hours.
Let cool in pan for 15 minutes before removing.
My mom made this. She had lots of eggs and her homemade butter. It sure was good!
Old-Fashioned
Hard Gingerbread
1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
2/3 cup vegetable shortening
1 egg
3 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 cup buttermilk or sour milk
Mix all ingredients in order given to make a very stiff dough.
Spread in a greased 10 x 15 inch cookie sheet.
Bake at 350º for about 20 minutes.
Makes 40 bars.
Easy Party Punch
2 quarts sweet apple cider
1 quart ginger ale
Pour cider and ginger ale directly into punch bowl.
Add a block of ice or ice cubes.
Fruit Punch
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
5 – 6 oz. cans frozen lemonade concentrate
2 – 46 oz. cans pineapple juice
2 qt. ginger ale
Dissolve sugar in water over heat.
Chill.
Add lemonade concentrate and pineapple juice.
Right before serving, add ginger ale.
Serves 50.
