On March 26, a four-foot blacksnake mysteriously got into the back of a pickup truck owned by James F. McComb, who lives on Second Avenue, while he was fishing in Knapps Creek above Marlinton. In an attempt to rid his truck of the snake, he was bitten twice on the hand.

HILLSBORO RED DEVILS

Leading scorer for the Red Devils for the 1975-76 season was Kevin Workman followed by Clarence Neal. Leading in rebounding was David Walton. Leading scor-er in the Pocahontas Graded School Tournament was David Walton, followed by Kevin Workman. The full team consists of Kevin Workman, Tim Workman, Junior McMillion, David Walton, Bobby Simmons, Mark Roberts, Bruce Rose, Jeff Pritt, Clarence Neal. Mike Deputy and Leroy Evans. Managers are Ronnie Simmons, Chuck Workman and Paul Hill. Coach Jerry Buzzard.

ALLEGHENY TRAIL

Formal approval for a new, 200-mile hiking trail between Narrows, Virginia, and Davis, W. Va., is expected to be given here on April 3 during the fourth Annual Conference of the West Virginia Seneca Trails Association.

Named the Allegheny Trail Cooperative Agreement, the approval allows trail clearing and blazing as well as route marking. Some trail portions are already in existence.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dale, of Minnehaha Springs, a son, Adam Hunter.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. William Carpenter, of Buckeye, a daughter, Brandy Jane.

DEATHS

Sidney Lanier Goodwyn, age 62, of Marlinton, a son of the late Isom H. and Selena F. Goodwyn. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and president of the Marlinton Lions Club. Mr. Goodwyn was a teacher in Marlinton schools with 36 years’ service. In the summer he worked at the Buckskin Council Dilley’s Mill Scout Reservation. Funeral service was held from VanReenen Funeral Home with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Howard Zephenia (Buck) Double, Jr., 34, of Groveton, Texas, a graduate of West Virginia University School of Forestry. He began his career on the Monongahela National Forest at the Marlinton Ranger District. Service was held from the Cartwright Funeral Home Chapel in Groveton and at Marlinton Methodist Church with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mrs. Elneta Rogers Morgan, 66, of Marlinton, born at Hillsboro, a daughter of the late Romey L. and Mattie Miller Rogers. Funeral service from VanReenen Funeral Home with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Genevieve Miller, 67, of Dunmore, a daughter of the late Garfield S. and Ella M. Grimes. Funeral service from New Hope Church at Dunmore with burial in Dunmore Cemetery.

Mrs. Amy Moore Sharp, 73, of Huntersville, a daughter of the late William T. and Sally G. McLaughlin Moore. Funeral service from VanReenen Funeral Home with burial in the McLaughin Cemetery at Huntersville.

Fay Andrew Moyers, 57, of Durbin, a World War II veteran. Service held from the Durbin church with burial in Arbovale Cemetery.

Mrs. Jessie V. Simmons, 87, of Durbin, a native of Monterey, Virginia, and a daughter of Jacob K. and Rebecca E. Varner. She lived in Durbin for 54 years. She made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Emma Nottingham. Funeral service from the Durbin Church of the Brethren with burial in Durbin Cemetery.

Mrs. Birdie Marie Taylor, 72, of Dunmore, a daughter of the late George W. and Amanda Kelley Taylor. Funeral service from the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Our family circle has been broken,
A link has gone from our chain.
But though we’ve parted for a while,
We know we’ll meet again.
