PCHS Homecoming
The Queen of the Sixth Annual Homecoming of Pocahontas County High School will be chosen from among three girls during the half time ceremonies of the Pocahontas – Franklin football game.
The queen’s court will be presented, and vying for the royal title will be Virginia Cloonan, 17, of Marlinton; daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Cloonan; Mary Jane Oref, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wally Oref, of Green Bank; and Paula Phillips, 17, granddaughter of Fred Sherbs, of Huntersville.
Virginia will be escorted by Jeff Weiford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Weiford, of Marlinton; Mary Jane’s escort will be Billy Sharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sharp, of Marlinton; and Paula will be escorted by David Jonese, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jonese, of Arbovale.
The Queen’s Court will consist of Senior Attendant Sherry Wyatt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wyatt, of Frost. Sherry’s escort will be Greg Curry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Curry, of Marlinton.
The Junior Attendant will be Eva Cloonan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Cloonan, of Marlinton. Eva’s escort will be Curtis Hively, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Hively, of Dunmore.
The Sophomore Attendant will be Kim Nottingham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Nottingham, of Dunmore. Kim’s escort will be Larry Ryder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ryder, of Minnehaha Springs.
The Freshman Attendant will be Karen Valencia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gronimo Valencia, of Green Bank. Karen’s escort will be Scotty Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kelley.
Miss Michelle McLaughlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul McLaughlin, of Durbin, will serve as crown bearer.
Scepter bearer will be Matthew Burns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Burns, of Marlinton.

Pocahontas 7 – Elkins 6
PCHS did an outstanding job on defense this week and downed Elkins 7-6. D. C. Gum scored the touchdown, and Steve Mccoy kicked the extra point.
The defense didn’t get scored on as Elkins’ score was a gift on an interception.

Mrs. Ella Arbdeen, age 100, died in Denmar State Hospital. Born at Nellies Ford in Nelson County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Ferrell. Funeral from VanReenen Funeral Home with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
