BIRTHDAY

Mrs. Maggie J. Hannah, of Bucks Mountain, celebrated her 90th birthday at her home on Monday, September 11, 1950. She would appreciate hearing from friends, who would take the time out to send her a greeting card. Mrs. Hannah is a daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine Moore Auldridge, of Edray. Her sister is Mrs. Ida Auldridge McClure.

FAMILY REUNION

Slaty Fork – On Sunday, September 3, the two daughters and four sons of L. D. Sharp, with their children and grandchildren, held a family reunion at the Sharp home here. Here is the roll call:

Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Curtain and son, Stanley, of Baltimore.

Mr. and Mrs. Rufus M. Markland, of Richmond.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Sharp and sons, Ralph and Evan, of Nitro.

Si Sharp, of Slaty Fork

Mr. and Mrs. Paul L. Sharp and children, Thayer and Barbara, of Port Neches, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Dave Sharp, of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Of the grandchildren, there were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hannah, and son, Eugene, and Mr. and Mrs. William Keene and son, David, all of Baltimore; Mr. and Mr. Thomas Shipley, of Charleston.

The group included six children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. All attended Sunday School. They sang “Faith of Our Fathers’ – dedicated to Mr. Sharp.

BIRTHDAY HONORED

Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Gallaher honored their niece, Miss Joan Friel, at their home September 3 with a party on her 16th birthday.

Happy Birthday was sung by the guests. Games were played, gifts were opened, and refreshments were served to the following:

Mildred Wilfong, Patsy Wooddell, Alma Reed, Louise, Geraldine, Denny and Wade Sharp, Eugene, Elmer, Everett and Ernie Friel, Sterl and Kyle Carpenter, Gray Jackson, Donald Irvine, Bobby Ryder, Harry Aldman, Mrs. Eldon Friel and children, Yvonne, Kyle and Judy, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Friel and daughters, Peggy and Barbara, Virginia and Shirley Gallaher, Mrs. Jerry Friel and Mrs. Harold Pelkey.

SHOWER GIVEN

Mrs. Zelda Kershner honored Mrs. Burley Pritt, Monday night, with a shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Pritt, on Droop Mountain. Mrs. Pritt received many nice and useful gifts. Refreshment were served to the following friends and relatives: Ruby Goode, Blanche Brown, Ada McCoy, Nannie Scott, Ellen Bruffey, Janice McCoy, Margie Kershner, Pauline Goode, Bernice Pyles, Delsie Cogar, Ruth Hall, Hilda Kershner, Phyllis Kershner, Norma Lee Clutter, Nila Clutter, Dorothy Kershner, Velma Shue, Genevieve McCoy, Lola Dilley, Zelda Kershner, Nora Pritt, Pearl Shue, Lucy Kershner, Nannie McMillion, Lila Fae Pritt, Marie Wiliams, Lillie Barrett, Ruby McMillion, Shirley Pritt, Beulah Scott, Kathleen Bruffey, Anita Cutlip, Ima Pritt, Dot Kershner, Hazel Kershner, Carol Lee Shue, Nannie Kershner, Grace Pritt and Ruth Hollandsworth.

PERSONAL NOTES

Richard McNeel, president, and J. M. McNeel, secretary, of the Ruritan club attended a meeting last week of Ruritan presidents and secretaries of the West Virginia District. The district convention will be held at Frankford November 9. It is expected 250 Ruritans will be present.

One of the graduate students at the University for master’s degree is David E. Smith, of Green Bank High School. As subject for his thesis, he chose “The Safe Use of Machines in the Vocational Agriculture Shop.”

The following are the officers of the Youth Fellowship of the Marlinton Methodist Church for the coming year: President, Peggy Madison; Vice President, Kendall McNeill; Secretary, Nancy Yeager; Treasurer, Peggy Moore; Worship, Carolyn Barlow; Recreation, Eddie Seagraves; Missions, Maro-lyn Barlow; Citizenship, Evelyn Curry; Publicity, Pat Curtis.

VICTIMS OF FLOOD

Renick – Oscar Theodore Brown, aged 22, and Jordan Brown, aged 18, cousins, of Renick, and their cousin, Vern Brown, aged 40 years, of Rocks, Md., were victims of drowning in a flash flood in Gunpowder Falls near Baltimore Sunday night, September 10. Mrs. Irene Hill, of Dunmore, is a sister of Oscar.
