“There Ain’t No G in Marlinton”
A smart and stylish man was he,
He had a college bought degree,
He wished to buy some timber land,
And so he took his pen in hand,
But when it all was said and done,
He hurt his friend in Marlinton.
He did a capital crime, you see,
Spelling Marlinton with a G.
There ain’t no G in Marlinton.

Jacob Marlin, a hunter bold,
Settled here in days of old,
He camped in a hollow tree,
And spelled his name with nary G.
His partner, a hunter, also came,
Stephen B. Sewell was his name,
The year was seventeen-fifty-one,
They founded the town of Marlinton.
While they dwelt in solitude,
Sewell got in an ugly mood;
He took his knife and, on a tree,
Cut MARLING.
Then, Jacob Marlin, mighty quick,
Fell on him like a thousand brick,
For it always riled his family
For folks to spell the name with G.
Old Jacob Marlin died in bed,
Sewell – the Indians killed him dead.
It was an awful fate, but he
Was prone to use the extra G.
Let all take warning from his fate,
And when our town they denigrate,
They sure must mind their Ps and Qs,

Mr. and Mrs. Everett Dilley, Jr., of Dunmore, request the presence at the marriage of their daughter, Connie Sue Dilley, to Charles Thomas Cover, Jr., son of Charles T. Cover, of Bartow.

The wedding plans of Miss Christella Friel, daughter of Mrs. Arden Friel, of Clover Lick, and PFC Stanley Clark, son of Herbert Clark, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, are now being announced. The ceremony will take place in July 1976. Mr. Clark is now serving in the U. S. Army in Aschaffenburg, Germany.

The wedding of Mabel Palmer and Aubrey Arvin will be held in the Marlinton Methodist Church August 21, 1975. A special invitation is extended to all of her former students and their parents.

DEATHS
Paul Revere Overholt, 78, of Buckeye died August 18, 1975, from a heart attack while walking near his home. Born at Buckeye, he as a son of Albert S. and Lucy McNeill Overholt.
Mr. Overholt retired to farming several years ago after operating The Men’s Store in Marlinton. He was a Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Knights Templar. He served as Marlinton’s Fire Chief from 1934 to 1946.

Daniel Gordon Sharp, 65, of Staunton, Virginia, a native of Frost, a son of Mrs. Odessa Jordan Sharp Curry, of Frost, and the late Aaron A. Sharp. In World War II, he served with the 97th Evacuation Hospital in the European Theater; a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, and member of Masonic Lodge 65, Huntersville. He was employed for 27 years in the accounting department of Smith’s Transfer Corporation and had retired February 1, 1975.
