Attention 4-H Clubs.
In celebration of Earth Day, the Solid Waste Authority is sponsoring a contest among all Pocahontas County 4-H clubs to see which club can collect the most newspapers, magazines and catalogs (by weight) between March 6 and April 25.
Recycling one ton of paper can save 12 trees. Let’s see how many trees we can save.
Each club that collects at least 500 pounds will receive $50 for participating. In addition to the participation prize, the first-place club will receive an additional $150, second-place will receive $100, and third-place will receive $50. Winners will be announced on April 30.
Newspapers should be sorted separately from magazines/catalogs, and all the recyclables should be dry and clean. You may bring them in cardboard boxes. The boxes will be weighed with the contents. Bring your collections to Pocahontas County Landfill at Dunmore on Saturday, March 28, and Saturday, April 25, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. to be weighed.
