Seventy-four year old Wayne Smith and his 70 year old brother Lloyd are taking a road trip.
The pair left South Boston, Virginia, Sunday evening about 4:30 p.m. on their way to Portland, Indiana. By Wednesday morning, they had made it to the Buckeye Country Mart in Buckeye.
That might not sound too impressive, until you consider the fact that they are going to a tractor show in Indiana, and they are riding tractors to get there.
Wayne is driving a Farmall, and he loaned his brother a Ford.
“Lloyd lives in town,” Wayne said . “He doesn’t have a tractor, but he said, ‘what are you gonna do?’ and I told him. He said, ‘if you’re crazy enough to do it, I’m crazy enough to go with you.”‘
Wayne’s son, Randy, the “cook, cleaner, go-getter, WalMart locater,” drives a motorhome and keeps an eye on the travelers.
They hope to be in Indiana on Wednesday so they can take part in the 45-mile tractor trip that has been organized as part of the tractor show.
After a journey estimated to be nearly 750 miles, a 45-mile trip will be a walk in the park.
