A mushroom foray co-sponsored by Watoga State Park and the Pocahontas Nature Club will be held at Watoga State Park July 22.
Saturday’s activities will commence with a presentation on edible mushrooms, and mushrooms to avoid, that are commonly found in Pocahontas County in the summer months.
Guided mushroom hikes will be available afterward on trails ranging from easy and short to moderate and longer. After the hikes there will be a station set up for identification of collected mushrooms. There will also be a demonstration on mushroom cookery and live music entertainment at Yew Mountain Center.
Vendors and artisans will be invited to set up booths offering a variety of mushroom items and mushroom art, as well as books about mushroom identification.
While attending this mushroom event you are invited to explore the trails and sights at Watoga State Park as well as nearby attractions such as the Greenbrier River Trail, Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park, Beartown State Park and the magnificent Highland Scenic Highway.
