Wanda “Jean” Rexrode Clarkson Raupach, of Bluemont, Virginia, took her journey to be with the Lord Thursday, August 28, 2025, in the comfort of her home.

Born May 13, 1940, at the family home in Arbovale, she was a daughter of Pearl R. Clarkson and the Rexrode family. Her stepfather, Russell Clarkson, adopted her in 1945 and raised her with care and love, as his own.

Jean graduated from Green Bank High School in 1958. Following a job with the Mower Lumber Company and a short time at Fairmont College, she relocated to Washington D.C. Jean became an administrative assistant for the FBI, and after 10 years of service, began working for the House of Representatives, where she retired after 22 years. After retirement, Jean worked for 10 years as a receptionist for Dr. Deanna Deruso, in Leesburg, Virginia.

Jean married Kenneth Raupach August 31, 1973, and resided with him in Alexandria, Virginia, until his death in 1986. After retirement, Jean left the city and moved to the home she and Ken had built together in Bluemont, Virginia.

She found a special friend and loving companion, Robert Tewes, later in life. They traveled and enjoyed the little things in life until he was lost to cancer in 2006. Jean continued to enjoy good friends and her favorite food spots, socialized and stayed busy as a single woman. In 2017, Jean’s mother came to live with her while building a stronger bond and becoming best friends. Jean cared for her mother selflessly until her own health prevented her from continuing to do so. Jean and Pearl resided together in her house until Jean’s passing.

Jean was an independent, hardworking, loving woman who had an open ear for anyone and always enjoyed a good laugh. Her generosity and kindness came without expectation, and she valued those who kept their word. She was referred to as “one of the best patients,” by many who worked with her in the healthcare field.

In addition to her father, husband and companion, she was preceded in death by many cherished relatives and close friends.

She is survived by her loving mother; cousins; neighbors and friends, whom she considered family.

Graveside service will follow immediately after the service for her mother, Pearl Clarkson, Saturday, September 27, 2025, which will be held at 1 p.m. at the Arbovale United Methodist Church. Burial for both will be in Arbovale Cemetery with Pastor David Rittenhouse and Pastor Amy Paul officiating.

There will be no visitation.

A special thank you to the caretakers, nurses, doctors, friends and family who assisted in ensuring love and care for Jean during her transition.
