Virginia Lee Beard Callison, age 92, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Pocahontas Center in Marlinton.
Born October 21, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Joel P. and Mamie Cackley Beard.
Virginia graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1939 and from West Virginia University in 1943. She was a beloved science and home economics teacher at Hillsboro and Renick High Schools.
Virginia loved life. She enjoyed gardening, her cat, Kiki, and traveling. With her husband, she traveled to all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Switzerland. She was active in community organizations and activities. She was a 50 year member of CEOS, a lifetime member of Presbyterian Women, an elder in Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, a Sunday School teacher and an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only sister, Mary Frances Stulting.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Hubert S. Callison; a son, Joel S. Callison, and wife, Stella, of Hillsboro; two daughters, Carolyn J. Randolph, and husband, Robert Lynn, of Hillsboro, and Jane Crosby, and husband, Gary R., of South Charleston; and three treasured grandsons, Caleb R. Crosby, of Louisville, Colorado, Sgt. Mathias Callison, of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and Michael Callison, of Hillsboro.
Funeral service is Saturday, February 15, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Andrew Rice officiating. Family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
