Pocahontas County had a 68.83% voter turnout for the November 5, 2024 General Election: 1,337 early voters; 146 voting absentee; and 2,435 on Election Day, for a total of 3,918 votes cast.
In county races:
Thane Ryder, Republican candidate for Pocahontas County Commission garnered 2,533 votes to Democrat candidate Jay Miller’s 1,176.
Democrat Troy McCoy received 2,352 votes in the race for Pocahontas County Sheriff while Republican candidate Kenneth Buster” Varner received 1,342.
Democrat candidate Laura Finch received 2,465 votes in her bid for Pocahontas County Prosecuting Attorney. There were 187 write-in votes, which will be identified at the canvass next week.
Republican candidate Johnny Pritt was unopposed in the Assessor’s race and received 3,216 votes.
Candidates in the race for the Unexpired Term on the Pocahontas County Board of Education received the following number of votes, with Andrew “Frosty” McNabb as the highest vote getter at 1,803; Donna Dilley 754; Dawn Baldwin Barrett 605; Jaryd M. Wilfong 308.
In the race for House of Delegates 46th District: Republican Jeff Campbell won over his Democrat opponent Paul S. Detch 1,172 to 509 in the county and won in the district.
In the House of Delegate 66th District, Republican Jonathan B. Kyle won in the county with 1,365 votes to Democrat candidate Dama M. Nestor’s 567. Kyle won in the district, as well.
Amendment 1 – “Prohibit Medically Assisted Suicide” was very close in the county with 1,591 votes For and 1,581 Against.
With 71 percent of the votes counted statewide, those numbers were 278,395 For; and 274, 769 Against.
West Virginia called winners early in the following races:
Jim Justice, U. S. Senator; Carol Miller, U. S. House of Representatives; and Patrick Morrisey, Governor. All these candidates are Republicans.
