Shirley Ellen Jackson Chestnut, 82, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Augusta Health Shenandoah House in Fishersville, Virginia.
Born December 22, 1942, in Marlinton, she was a daughter of the late Edward Thomas and Pearl Lillie Palmer Jackson.
For more than a decade, Shirley and her husband ran a convenience store. After their time in the store, Shirley dedicated herself to her career at Genesco, followed by an equally fulfilling tenure at McKee that spanned more than a decade.
Shirley was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to her faith life, she had a passionate love for making ceramics. Camping was another cherished passion of Shirley’s, especially at their beloved camp in Bath County. She also loved attending the West Virginia State Fair.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Warwick Chestnut, whom she married December 28, 1960; brothers, Thomas and Randall Jackson; and sister, Wanda Lee Jackson Sheets.
She is survived by her son, William Wayne Chestnut, and his wife, Robyn; brothers-in-law, Franklin Chestnut, and wife, Dreama, and Bernard Chestnut, and wife, Marie; sisters-in-law, Erma Jean, and husband, George, Mary Grace Chestnut and Lucy Cahoon; and a nephew, Dale Sheets, and wife, Charlene.
A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service
Interment will immediately follow at Oak Law Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton, Virginia.
