The Marlinton Town Council’s Urban Deer Hunt committee advises that improvements and changes have been put in place for the second annual hunt.
The purpose of the hunt is to reduce deer damage to gardens, flowers, shrubbery, etc. in specific areas of the town.
Fifty applications are available.
There is a $5 registration fee per application.
The hunt will open Saturday, September 4, and continue through Saturday, December 30.
A maximum of seven deer may be taken, the first two of which must be antlerless.
Details, applications, registration and maps are available at Appalachian Sport, located on Rt. 219 in Marlinton.
A drawing has been added to this year’s event.
For each successful antlerless harvest, the hunter’s name will be entered into a drawing for a Parker Crossbow. The winner will be determined at the end of the season.
