Ronald “Ron” Eldridge Roy, Sr. 78, of Marlinton, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the loving arms of his son at his home.
Born September 11, 1945, Ron grew up hunting and fishing alongside his father, brothers and the “mountain men” of Woodrow Mountain. At the age of 16, he met his life partner, Mary Lee, and, shortly after graduating high school, they married April 8, 1966. Ron was a 32nd degree Mason. He spent many years as a heavy equipment operator working for Ralph Beckwith, whom he considered a dear friend. Ron was a hard worker and a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He deeply believed in the importance of family, as he said “if you have common sense, work hard, and take care of your family, you will be all right.”
Ron truly appreciated his simple life with his wife by his side and surrounded by as many friends and family that could fit around the kitchen table every evening.
He was preceded in death by his father, West Virginia Bow Hunters Association Hall of Fame Member Joe J. Roy; his mother, Bonnie Carr Roy; and two brothers, John E. Roy and Joe W. Roy.
Ron is survived and missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Lee Roy; his children, Ron E. Roy Jr. (Georgia Roy), Ronda Rose (Gary Rose), Cindy Rogers (Mike Rogers) and William “Bill” Joseph Roy. He will be forever cherished and missed by his grandchildren, Nicole Rose-Taylor, Jennifer Chaney, Amy Pugh, Katie Arbogast, Amanda Buzzard, Tiffany Rogers-McClure, Kayla Shaw, Kendra Beavers, William Joseph Roy, Jr. and Ryan Roy; and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Marlinton Senior Center.
