
Pocahontas – County Fair 1955
Mr. E. H. Williams with Miss Nancy May who has just been crowned Queen Pocahontas II at the 1955 Pocahontas County Fair. Editor Cal Price gave the following account in The Pocahontas Times on August 22, 1955:
“The Beauties” – Again the beauty pageant proved the popular feature at the Pocahontas County Fair. Out of a field of 20 contestants, with 8 runners up, Miss Nancy May, of Levels District, was crowned Queen Pocahontas II by President E. H. Williams on Thursday night. The pageant was witnessed by a grandstand full of people.
The three Princesses were Miss Nancy Ward Currence, for Edray District; Miss Peggy Sheets, for Green Bank; and Miss Cora Lee McLaughlin, for Huntersville.
Judges were Miss Lois Wagner, of Chicago; John Steele, Reading, Mississippi; and Robert Sydenstricker, of Lewisburg.
