This picture postcard shows a herd of elk on the grounds of the Allegheny Sportsmen’s Association in Minnehaha Springs, W.Va. The gentleman standing on the right is most likely Mr. H. M. Lockridge who was the manager and one of the early organizers of the club. The elk seen here were transported by train from Yellowstone National Park. The lodge was built in 1913 on the brow of the hill overlooking Douthards and Knapps creeks valleys. This photograph was taken in 1917 by local photographer Cal Gay of Gay’s Studio in Marlinton.
