A beautiful night photo of Shay No. 1 resting in front of the Cass Depot. A crew member is standing on the tracks next to the engine. The picture was probably taken in 1963, the year that the Cass Scenic Railroad opened, carrying tourists up Cheat Mountain. It’s worth remembering that on September 1, 1963 the trains had 1,455 paid riders. (Pocahontas Co. Historical Society Collection, ID: PHS000776)
