Fascinating photograph, by Underwood and Underwood, of what is no doubt a very cold day on Cheat Mountain. Seen here is a section of the mill operation in the Town of Spruce. The date of the photograph is unknown, however the photographic company began producing news-bureau photography in the 1920s and ceased operations in the 1940s. Of course Spruce no longer exists, but in its day it was the highest town in West Virginia with an elevation of 3,853 feet. Photo Courtesy of Pocahontas County Historical Society, ID: PHS002609
