PMH hosting monthly Cancer Support groups
Pocahontas Memorial Hospital takes its mission to serve the community very seriously – not only in providing high quality healthcare for its patients, but also as an educational and support resource. The hospital has long hosted a monthly Diabetes Support Group and Tobacco Cessation Support. On Monday, August 22, PMH hosted its first caregiver and cancer support groups.
The groups met to identify the needs and interests of group members and to spend time getting to know one another. Both groups will meet on the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. The support groups will meet in separate rooms.
The caregiver support group welcomes all past or current caregivers looking for emotional support. While the caregiver support group will meet at the same time as the cancer support group, caregivers of any disease are encouraged to attend. The group will be a time to come together to share the difficulties of caring for loved ones. It will also be an opportunity to learn from others on how they cope with the burden of caregiving and how they make decisions for care, such as hospice.
Both cancer survivors and current patients are welcome to attend the cancer support group. The support group will be for both emotional and educational support. There will be time to discuss the difficulties of living with cancer and time will be dedicated to learning from speakers on relevant topics, including diet recommendations to follow during chemotherapy.
Please join us Monday, September 26, at 7 p.m. at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital for the next caregiver and cancer support groups.
