On the 24th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps and Marlinton Mayor Sam Felton hosted a Remembrance Ceremony to honor those who were lost on that day as well as those who have since passed away.
Following Felton’s short welcome, he led those gathered in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Honor Corps presented a 21-gun salute and ended with the playing of Taps. In the background was a Marlinton Fire Department fire truck with its ladder extended, flying an American Flag.
As has been the tradition at this event, the Honor Corps held an official retirement of old or damaged American Flags. S. Stewart photo
