There were three items on the agenda for Monday night’s Marlinton Town Council meeting and council swiftly worked its way through them.
Under New Business, Mayor Sam Felton led a brief discussion about celebrating the 275th birthday of the town of Marlinton. Felton explained that the town was settled by English colonists Jacob Marlin and Stephen Sewell in 1749.
Felton said he spoke to First Friday organizers Lauren Bennett and Luci Mosesso and they agreed that the celebration could be part of a First Friday celebration.
Council approved to move forward with plans to organize a celebration of the anniversary later this year.
Council also approved the third and final reading of corrections to the ordinance to amend the refuse and garbage ordinance and increase collection rates, and second reading of changes to the general penalty ordinance.
Marlinton Town Council meets the first Monday of each month, excluding holidays, at 7 p.m. in the Marlinton municipal building auditorium. The public is welcome to attend in person or online through a Zoom link.
