MTC makes quick work of short agenda

Marlinton Town Council met Monday night to discuss a short agenda which had two new items for consideration.
First, recorder Mary Clendenen explained that, due to Senate Bill 50 which was recently passed, all municipalities will have to move the election cycle to coincide with the county’s election dates.

Municipalities have until 2032 to make this change, but Clendenen said it was a good idea to get prepared for the process. She said she spoke to Pocahontas County Clerk Missy Bennett who will help make the transition.
Council then discussed the Comprehensive Plan update process. State Code requires that the plan be updated every 10 years.

Mayor Sam Felton said the current plan was finished six years ago and many of the issues outlined in the plan have been fixed or are in the process of being updated, but there are still things that need work.

Council did not make any plans concerning the update process but did discuss who needed to be on the committee and options for funding for the plan.

Marlinton Town Council meets the first Monday of each month, excluding holidays, at 7 p.m. in the municipal building auditorium.

The public is welcome to attend in person or online through a Zoom link.
