Minnie “Jean” Burr, 80, peacefully passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Born March 25, 1945, in Marlinton, she was a daughter of the late Dewey and Crystal Burr.
She was a graduate of Marlinton High School, Class of 1963. Following graduation, Jean followed in the footsteps of two of her sisters, Louise and Millie, and moved to the Washington, D.C. area where she worked with her sisters at the Pentagon. Jean served for nearly two decades as an analyst at the DIA. She moved back to her roots in Beaver Creek in the late 1980s. She opened a skating rink in downtown Marlinton, which brought joy to kids and families in the community for many years.
Jean spent her final days at her daughter’s home surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Her passing marks the close of a life rooted in deep familial bonds and cherished connections.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, David Gainer.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Chris Lafever; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Lisa Hall; sisters, Louise Moore, Millie and Don Purdy, and Phyllis Pyne; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Margaret Burr; and grandson, Dakota Gainer. Their enduring love and presence were a source of strength throughout Jean’s life.
A memorial service will be held at Beaver Creek Church at 1 p.m. Saturday October 4, 2025. This will be followed by a burial service at Beaver Creek Cemetery.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. She was a great mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her.
