Mary L. McDonald Hurley Paul, a resident of Bartow since 1984, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016, at her home.

Born in 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the seventh child of the late Charles and Ethel Casey McDonald.

Mary worked for Snowshoe Mountain, retiring in 1996 to help her husband in their business until his death in 2004. She spent her last years doing fun things, such as volunteering as a DJ at WVMR, singing with the Green Bank Senior Choir, working with the Pocahontas Chapter of West Virginians for Life and fostering and finding homes for needy dogs. Mary was a Christian and a member of Pine Grove Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles McDonald, Donald McDonald and Ronald McDonald; three sisters, Helen McDonald, Kathleen McDonald and Doris McDonald; her first husband, Hayes Hurley; and her second husband, Merlin Paul.

She is survived by two children, Steven H. Hurley, of Yorktown, Virginia, and Ronda L. Hurley, of Bartow; three step-children, Gregor Paul, of San Diego, California, Shelly Paul Roberts, and Terry Paul Guffy, both of Athens, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Josh Grogg, Casey Grogg and Julia Hurley; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Grogg, Isabella Grogg and Garrett Hannah; and five step-grandchildren, in California and Tennessee.

Per her request, the body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mary was an avid reader and requested memorials be made to the Green Bank Library Children’s Reading Program, 5683 Potomac Highland Trail, Green Bank, WV 24944; WVMR, 9836 Browns Creek Road, Dunmore, WV 24934; or Green Bank Senior Center, PO Box 55, Green Bank, WV 24944.
