Martin A. Sharp Sr., 77, a lifelong resident of Marlinton, died Monday, January 27, 2025, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.
Born March 20, 1947, in Marlinton, he was a son of the late Oscar Sharp and Margaret Noonan Sharp.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a heavy equipment operator for mining companies and a member of Marlinton Lodge 127 AF &AM.
Martin was an outdoorsman. He greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking his children and nephews as often as possible. He would often tell stories of his time as a child, hunting with his father and uncle, the “Sharp Bear Hunting Twins.” He was a kind and generous individual who greatly enjoyed watching local kids grow in sports. He would attend multiple football and basketball games to support and cheer on the Warriors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Margaret Noonan Sharp; brother, Duane Sharp Sr; sister, Elaine Walker; several nephews; and a niece.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Caitlin Sharp, and fiancé, Wes McLaughlin; son, Marty Sharp; and step-son, Robert Mann, and wife, Samara, and their son, David; sisters, Christine Wilfong, and husband, Kenneth, and Eileen Burks, and husband, Johnny; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday February 8, 2025, at VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton.
