For those who share my concern regarding the closing of the local Walgreens Pharmacy, I wanted you to know that an email has been written to the Walgreens Corporation, asking for reconsideration, and the possibility of continuing business at this local location.
In addition – what would the sight of three closed businesses say to travelers passing by?
Accordingly, I share the following:
To whom it may concern,
As a small rural community, 50+ miles from your next closest pharmacy, it is with more than a little dismay that we hear of our Marlinton store being closed.
More than six weeks ago, when I heard of the White Sulphur Springs location closing, I imagined that to be a good sign for our local Marlinton location, hoping that someone had identified and considered our remote location.
As Mayor of the County Seat, I asked to know, what, if anything, could be done for this decision to be reversed. At the very least, the company’s mission statement to ensure all communities have access, clearly needs revisiting. Furthermore, the reference to low-income communities having access to healthcare sounds very hollow indeed.
The sign on the front door at Walgreens added insult to injury, noting the drawing of a red line to the Webster County location that is an hour and a half from here, over some of the most difficult terrain in the east.
Your response would be welcomed.
Sincerely,
Sam Felton, Mayor
Town of Marlinton
Pocahontas County
Note: I did receive a Confirmation, noting that a corporate representative will contact me in the next two business days.
That should have happened by the time you read this.
