The Town of Marlinton was officially notified April 25 that Governor Jim Justice had announced the allocation of funds for 61 outdoor recreation projects across West Virginia. Banking on recreation efforts in 34 counties, including nearly 700 miles of new or enhanced outdoor recreation trails.
The Town of Marlinton was awarded $100,000 for new and replacement sidewalks in the central business district and residential area.
Please NOTE: This federal grant award is not for construction, but for the Design Phase of the project only.
The following is the funding breakdown:
$80,000 – Federal Funds (80% of the project)
$20,000 – Sponsor Match (20% of the project)
$100,000 – Total Project Cost
Justice said the awards leverage state, federal and local funds and represent nearly $19 million of outdoor recreation infrastructure that will soon be underway.
Also, the National Forest Service has secured $1,250,000 to reconstruct the Cranberry Glades Boardwalk.
