In last week’s edition of The Pocahontas Times, I read the story of Rev. Sanford Boggs, as submitted by Preserving Pocahontas. Since reading the article and reflecting on the picture taken by photographer Doug Chadwick, I wanted to add a side note.
Those who knew Sanford, knew him to be a good man – humble, honest, God-fearing.
Our world would be a better place if we had more men like him.
Anyone who has attended the annual United Methodist Conference at Buckhannon, will remember the ceremonial recognition that is given to retiring ministers and/or those who have passed away between annual conferences. Each name read is honored and remembered by others in attendance by simply standing at the reading of the pastor’s name.
The article made me recall the unique privilege I was afforded at the 2005 UM Conference by standing in Remembrance at the reading of Reverend Sanford Boggs’ name, as one of many who was touched by Sanford’s life and the example he left behind.

As for Town business, a huge water leak was located and repaired last week, on Fifth Street, at the end of Third Avenue. It was estimated to be losing 75,000 gallons per day.
Also – FYI – for the umpteenth time, I have been shut out of my Facebook and Messenger accounts for about two or three weeks now, and I’m seriously considering staying out.
The juice just ain’t worth the squeeze.
If you are trying to leave the Mayor a message, please call the Town office number and I will get back with you. 304-799-4315.
