The unofficial start of summer began last week when the splash-pad was turned on at Discovery Junction. The splash- pad will be operational daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Hearing in the past week, that only 13% of our youth are proficient in American history and 50% of Americans know little about military history, I was encouraged that there was a better turn-out this year for the Memorial Day Service at Mountain View Cemetery Sunday.
The apostle Peter said in his second epistle, at chapter 3: “I now write unto you which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:” This was the best description I could think of for the Memorial Day Remembrance. The thoughts of the price of Freedom and the cost of war should stir all of us. The thoughts of men and women giving their lives in service to us, should stir all of us.
God bless our Pocahontas County Honor Corps for their service – past and present.
God bless all of our veterans – past and present.
Let us never forget the debt we owe to those who served and especially to those who never got to come home.
