Be the change you have been waiting for.
This week, I want to commend each of the candidates who, for love of community and a desire to create a better place to live, are willing to put themselves in the position of running for a seat in local government.
I am not just talking about Marlinton.
I want to commend those candidates who won or lost in Durbin and Hillsboro and every other little village across our land, where people work hard for their hometowns.
The fact is, the best candidate may not always win and the worst candidate may not always lose.
Who wants to risk being mocked, misunderstood and lied about?
Nobody!
But, that seems to go with the territory.
A better place for family, friends and strangers to live and work comes with a price.
You’ve got to pay to play.
It is worth working for; we live in a unique place.
Our community was settled 270 years ago.
Our county will be 200 years old in 2021.
This Thursday the 20th of June, our state celebrates its 156th birthday.
Yes, our town is older than the county, and the county is older than the state.
