Editor;
We cannot keep spending trillions of dollars every year we do not have no matter how wonderful the cause.
We are running over a $1.8 trillion annual deficit with a low unemployment rate and a good economy.
Reducing this requires massive cuts to all the discretionary programs and cuts and cost savings through technological innovations to entitlements where most of the money is referred to as the third rail of politics.
These actions will be painful but must be done. Reforming our tax code and a number of other significant measures, too numerous to go into here, will also be needed. Interest on the national debt currently exceeds what we spend on defense and is not sustainable.
So, what happens if this continues? An economic disaster that will make the Great Depression look like a church picnic.
Our country is broke – maxing out one credit card after another and living on payday loans.
I urge you to contact your elected officials in Congress and encourage them to do the hard and right thing before it is too late.
Sadly, most of you will do nothing as will most in Congress who spend money to buy votes so they can stay in office.
I fear the financial death spiral will probably continue. Enjoy the trainwreck that is coming.
