The Pocahontas County High School Lady Warriors soccer team played and won two more games last week – one on the road and one at home. This extends their winning streak to 13, with an overall record to 14-1-1, and shut-outs to 9. In addition, they have scored 102 goals – the most goals scored by any team in the state this season – saved 112, and allowed 13.
Lady Warriors at Petersburg
September 30
At half-time, the Lady Warriors were ahead 7-2. They scored five more goals in the second half and held Petersburg at 2 for a final score of 12-2, Pocahontas.
Scorers were junior Savannah McMillion and seniors Alexa Taylor, Laila Calhoun and Cloey Sharp. Assists on these goals were from seniors Kira Bircher, Sage McLaughlin and Calhoun and junior McMillion.
Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders, seniors McLaughlin and K. Bircher, sophomores Mackenna McKinney and Rayna Smith, and freshmen TaLisa Arbogast, Katlyn Simmons and Kelsi Taylor.
Defenders and midfielders, led by sophomores Macaden Taylor, Hazel Riley and Rayna Smith, seniors Amelia Rose, Emily Casto and Elizabeth Hefner and freshman Emma Riffe, cleared the ball out of the defensive field 26 times.
Goalkeeper junior Sienna Bircher saved 10 goals of Petersburg’s 12 shots on goal, and allowed 2.
Lady Warriors vs. Shady Spring
October 1
At half-time, the Lady Warriors were ahead 2-1. They scored three more goals in the second half and held Shady Spring at 1 for a final score of 5-1, Pocahontas.
Scorers were seniors Kira Bircher and Cloey Sharp and junior Savannah McMillion. Assists on these goals were from seniors Sage McLaughlin, Alexa Taylor, K. Bircher and Sharp.
Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders, seniors Laila Calhoun, Elizabeth Hefner, A. Taylor and McLaughlin and sophomore Rayna Smith.
Defenders and midfielders, led by seniors Emily Casto, Amelia Rose and Hefner, and sophomore Macaden Taylor cleared the ball out of the defensive field 38 times.
Goalkeeper junior Sienna Bircher saved 2 goals of Shady Spring’s 3 shots on goal, and allowed 1.
The Lady Warriors had been scheduled to play at home on Saturday, October 5, but Charleston Catholic cancelled.
Remaining regular-season games will be at Pikeview Thursday, October 10, and at Nicholas County Saturday, October 19.
Sectionals will be the week of October 21.
