The Pocahontas County High School Lady Warriors soccer team played and won its last regular-season game at Pikeview October 10.
This extended the team’s winning streak to 14; overall record to 15-1-1, and shut-outs to nine. In addition, they have scored 109 goals, saved 114 and allowed 14.
At half-time the Lady Warriors were ahead 3-1. They scored four more goals in the second half and held Pikeview at 1 for a final score of 7-1 Pocahontas.
Scorers were seniors Sage McLaughlin, Kira Bircher, Laila Calhoun and Cloey Sharp. Assists on these goals were from junior Savannah McMillion and seniors Alexa Taylor, K. Bircher, McLau-ghlin and Sharp, sophomore Mackenna McKenney and freshman Kelsi Taylor.
Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders, seniors Elizabeth Hefner and A. Taylor and junior McMillion.
Defenders and midfielders, led by seniors Emily Casto, Hefner and McLaughlin, and sophomores Macaden Taylor, Hazel Riley and Rayna Smith, cleared the ball out of the defensive field 47 times.
Goalkeeper junior Sienna Bircher saved two goals of Pikeview’s three shots on goal, and allowed one.
The Lady Warriors were scheduled to play at Nicholas County October 19, but Nicholas County cancelled.
The Lady Warriors begin sectional play on Thursday, October 24, at 8 p.m. at the Shawnee Sports Complex in South Charleston/Dunbar.
They will play the winner of the October 22 contest between Herbert Hoover and Midland Trail.
The sectional championship will continue at the Shawnee Sports Complex Saturday, October 26, at 4:30 p.m.
