Joyce Kay Powers Maize, age 73, of Elkins, departed this life Monday, April 17, 2017, at West Virginia University Hospital Ruby Memorial in Morgantown.
Born Friday, December 31, 1943, at Spruce, she was a daughter of the late Francis Kudora and Dovie Lillian Howell Powers.
Joyce attended schools in Pocahontas County. She worked for Davis Medical Center as a nurse aide, and at the time of her retirement, she was a Unit Secretary Technician. She was a member of the Randolph Chapter #74 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Elkins Church of the Brethren.
She enjoyed reading and crocheting, and made an afghan for everyone in her family. She loved to talk on the telephone, and her children and grandchildren could always count on a daily phone call from her. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren. She truly was the glue that held her family together.
Joyce married John Francis Maize in Elkins June 9, 1962.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Murl Powers and Jerry Powers; and four sisters, Juanita Fansler, Arveda Damon, Bernice McClain and Brenda Powers.
She is survived by her husband, John Maize; two sons, John Francis Maize, IV, and wife, Debra, of Somerset, Pennsylvania, and Kenneth Ray Maize, and wife, Cindy, of Norton; two daughters, Kathy Bee Spencer, and husband, Kenneth, of Buckhannon, and Barbara Lynn Golden, and husband, Brian, of West Milford; two sisters, Okareta Blake, and husband, Bob, of Front Royal, Virginia, and Wanda Sharp, of Elkins; 10 grandchildren, Megan Burge, Morgan Burge, Kudora Maize, Cassie Mize, Cheyenne Maize, Alyssa Maize, Tehya Maize, Andrew Burge, Tiffany Ware, and husband, Daniel, and Brandon Riffle; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 22 at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home in Elkins with Pastors Mark Teets and LeDeana Teets officiating. Interment was in the Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins.
