John J. “Grandy” Waggy Jr., a longtime resident of Roanoke, Virginia, peacefully passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital Thursday, March 6, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born March 27, 1937, he was a son of the late John and Hazel Waggy.
John was raised in Charleston, graduated from West Virginia University and Yale Divinity School and pursued a lifetime commitment of serving others. He retired from a long, distinguished career with United Way of America.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandra Waggy Lopinsky and Connie Waggy.
He is survived by his wife, Marolyn Barlow Waggy; daughter, Carolyn W. White; granddaughters, Abigail White, of Denver, Colorado, and Emma White, of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Barbara Wikoff; brother, Richard Waggy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Fred Burns; and nieces and nephews, Anne Burns Keeler, John Burns, Douglas Burns, Mark Lopinsky and Lisa Lopinsky.
