James William Carpenter, age 70, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 21, 2013, at his home.
Born March 20, 1943, at Dunmore, he was a son of the late James Lawrence “Buck” and Ida Claire Kerr Carpenter.
James graduated from Green Bank High School in 1961 and received his Bachelor’s degree from WVU in 1965. He taught at Green Bank High School from 1965 to 1969; was a partner and co-owner of B&C Builders for 30 years; and served on the Pocahontas County Commission from January 2003 to December 2008. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
He was an avid golfer, a member of the Board of Directors of the Pocahontas Country Club and a lifelong fan of the Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Sue Campbell Carpenter; two sons, Bill Carpenter, and wife, Hope, of Eldersburg, Maryland, and Josh Carpenter, and wife, Nora, of Asheville, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Eli Carpenter, Luke Carpenter and Garek Carpenter; and two sisters, Manota Hively, and husband, Don, of Dunmore, and Jane Gordon, and husband, Ronald, of Green Bank.
Funeral service Tuesday, December 24, 1 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with Pastors David Rittenhouse and Julian Rittenhouse officiating. Interment in the Dunmore Cemetery. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
